SCOPE
- Commercialization of potato tissue culture technology through public-private partnership in Pakistan.
- Production of potato nucleus seed through tissue culture technology
- Acquisition/evaluation of Chinese potato germplasm and varietal development for heat/cold tolerance.
- Capacity building of private/public sector for establishment/running of tissue culture labs on commercial basis.
- Development of DNA based fingerprinting system to verify the disease free status and purity of potato cultivars.
- Tender for Rs. 38 million under different heads for purchase of chemicals, Research Equipment &Construction of Screen houses e.t.c are under progress.
- Recruitment of research fellow under process.
20,000 tissue culture potato plants produced.
The project will generate employment in public and private sector. In the public sector two scientists and five daily wages persons will be hired directly. The farmers, transporters, exporters and market chain labor will indirectly get benefits from the project implementation.
