SCOPE

Satellite based area, yield and production estimation of crops

  1. Major crops (Wheat, rice, sugarcane and cotton): Area, Yield and Production
  2. Minor crops (mung bean, rapeseed mustard, chilies, citrus, banana and mango): R&D activities will be carried out for Pilot crops and pilot areas to develop crop discrimination, crop area estimation and yield forecasting techniques.

Capacity Building of stakeholders through:

  1. Strengthening of nucleus labs at Provincial Crop Reporting Services
  2. Trainings for all stakeholders

Sharing of Satellite based Information on crops with MNFS&R and other project stakeholders

  • Carried out satellite based estimations for Kharif crops: 2020-21 (Sugarcane, Rice and Cotton) and were shared with Economic Consultant, M/o NFS&R
  • Surveys were carried out in growing areas of Potato and Citrus for collection of ground referencing points. An R&D will be carried out to train the satellite remote sensing system for estimation of crops
  • Purchase orders of some project related items such as Workstations, Laptops, Camera, etc are in process.
  • Organized 05-Days training course on “ Geospatial Monitoring of Crop” from 14-18 December, 2020. Around 15 participants from different stakeholder departments of the project (i.e. Provincial Crop Reporting Services, Agriculture Departments, etc) were invited to this training course.
  • Satellite based system development for timely release of crops statistics
  • The stakeholder departments after attaining training in application of satellite in Crops Monitoring will be on a higher technology pedestal to carry out crop estimations
  • System will be available to relevant stakeholders for continuous information dissemination.
  • The system will help in improving working efficiency after completion of the project.
